new series: SILF day one

Earlier this year I did a [sporadic] week series on my favorite mashups.

Now I'd like to do a week of SILF (Songs I'd Like to Fuck)

First is the Aeroplane Italo 84 Remix of Kilometer by Sébastien Tellier.

Initially this remix sounds like just another remix of Kilometer (of which there are many). But starting from 3:13 on, where it starts to mellow out with the background melody that gradually and gradually is brought to the forefront when it finally explodes at 3:43 is ultimately orgasmic. Those 30 seconds of build are the audio foreplay to the final minute (plus) of absolute FUUUCK.

Sorry for that paragraph, but seriously, everytime 3:43 hits I always have to close my eyes and ride that high and if I could word it better I would but. I can't.

speaking of love

I have a bad habit of being an MP3 packrat. I am still holding onto some MP3s I got back in 1999 and 2000, in the days of yore AKA Napster.

The other day I finally upgraded my circa 2000 128kpbs Shanks and Bigfoot to 320kbps. It took a lot of strength to delete an MP3 I had for 9 years, with the whole packratty tendency.

But it sounds a fuckton better. I hope you enjoy this song as much as I always have.

Shanks and Bigfoot - Sweet Like Chocolate (Radio Edit)

love

I like to think of love in a few of its purest forms. Maybe not so much love at first site or love of things. Love. Like...how your parents love you. That unbreakable pure love that nothing can change. Or the person you know you want to be with forever, if you do ever know that. The love you feel when surrounded by the closest of friends. Feeling genuinely in love with the world. I don't know, it's nice to think about sometimes. For me, being in love with someone is the way I feel about this song:

I'm seriously cry your heart out melt all your insides float away to outerspace can't feel your feet jump a million times hug everyone kiss your pets dance with a stranger in fucking LOVE with Shooting Stars by Bag Raiders.

oh cough cough thx to ohh crapp aka nightmagnets? for the mp3

here is some stuff

Songs I am currently feeling. Nothing new, just what I am into at this moment.

Crookers - Gypsy P
Portishead - Humming
Lykke Li - Dance Dance Dance (Buraka Som Sistema Remix)

And this will be the hot track of the fall. I've been on it for awhile but I suspect B-Side won't catch on it til about September or October at the earliest. This is why I should not live in Ohio.

Simian Mobile Disco - Audacity of Huge (Featuring Chris Keating of Yeasayer)

Enjoy!

live shows

I rarely enjoy seeing live music anymore. I think it is because I have become a robot. Last night I decided to see my friend Matt Celio's band November Loop at Cedar's in Youngstown. I admit, my intentions were not purely to see his band: they were opening for a cute indiepop band I've heard of before called Casper and the Cookies. I heard of them via their covering Of Montreal (which I drunkenly blathered to "Casper" Jason Nesmith, only to find out today, embarrassingly, he was in OM at one time. Shoulda done my research prior), and had a couple other tracks so I wanted to hear more.

I was drunk so that may have helped, but I had so much fun. My friend and I were the only two people dancing during most of the set, eventually we dragged some people out of the depths to dance with us. But really, their set was so damn cute (Amber kept saying "I want to take them home with us!") and so full of energy that I couldn't help myself.

I am not one to write much on music as you can tell by my blog, so I'll just let you take a listen.

Casper and the Cookies - Krötenwanderung
Casper and the Cookies - Penelope (Of Montreal Cover)

Oh yeah, if you like it go buy their cd:
here
Or give them a listen on myspace:
here
Or if you really like them, follow them on twitter:

i should be sleeping

But instead, here is a story for you. It requires your imagination. Also some ignoring of laws of physics. But stories are all about what is not probable becoming probable, right?

Continuing, let's imagine there is this guy who one day discovers that his ability to break wind is more powerful than the average guy. I'm talkin toots that blast. He is alarmed at first, but decides to take advantage of this power, harness it. He then uses his powerful farts to blast into space, because he's always wanted to go into outer space. He farts right through the earth's atmosphere. He farts up higher and higher, each blast propelling him further and further out into space. He's pretty far up from earth when he realizes something: he can see the planet Mars. What better way to acknowledge this sight than to casually point it out? "Mars," he says nonchalantly.

Then he just zooms through space a bit more.

And now you know the story of the song Mars, by Fake Blood.

free advice

Here is a tip if you are a dj - If you are not very good, don't be a douche and try and ignore people making requests. Especially if it is a legitimate request like this:

The Whip - Trash

"I wanna be traaash(ed)"

welp

I figure since I already uploaded it for a friend, I might as well share it with you.

Diamonds

ALL THE DIAMONDS I OWN-

this isn't a secret

But I still think it's real cool to hear original source material for songs:

Title song from the soundtrack of a 1980s Dario Argento slasher film -
Goblin - Tenebre

à la electro:
Justice - Phantom

Please endure my shitty photoshops, now that I am using pictures I decided it will be my practice for learning photoshop.

Another, my favorite actually:

Diamonds - Margherita Hustle

I love Diamonds, and The Glamour (Diamonds is 1/2 of The Glamour)

The Glamour - Kids Night

Tuesday, January 20, 2009

picking back up

I went to DC for a bit for the Obama festivities. DC sorely lacks good dance nights.

But back on track with mashups:
THOMAS - Fun for the People (M.I.A. vs Calvin Harris)

Also, remember this song? It was (and is) tight.

GRUM - Whoa

I don't DJ this week, but it will be a great night.

Tuesday, January 13, 2009

whoops

Forgot I was going to do the mashup thing. Here you go, day one.

Wildlife - Knights Crusade (Crystal Castles vs Terry Lynn)

Monday, January 12, 2009

down pt 2

Feeling really bummed for other reasons. Somehow this song helps.

Groove Armada - Little by Little

I hope you have Itunes. For you 3 people out there reading (I am being optimistic), if you don't have Itunes I will either convert it or put up an mp3. I am lazy right now.

this week at hot knees

My friend Eric Celedonia is joining Bri and I to DJ. Initially Bri couldn't do it so he was the replacement, but now she can, and we don't want to boot him because of a misunderstanding. So the bill is just upped.

Anyhow, Eric is responsible for my obsession with that Das Pop remix, among some other gems so I am pretty sure it'll be a good time.

I really want to play Breakfast at HK again since almost no one was there last time I DJed.

I am playing this, however:
The Crystal Method - Double Down Under (LAZRtag Remix)

TOGETHER!

Thanks to my brother for getting this stuck in my head-
Pet Shop Boys - Go West

down down down

I have been kind of down lately, and this song will pretty much tell you why.
Das Pop - Fool for Love (SebastiAn Remix)

Ugh, mediafire

lix dixco

Here's some fuggen disco!

Catalan FC - Respect is Burning

I think next week I am going to post one mashup I really like a day.

a classic

If you don't have this song, get it. I don't need to say anything else.

Le Le - Breakfast

wait a minute

Sometimes I unwittingly pass over good remixes because of bad or boring intros.

Case in point:
Estelle - Wait a Minute (Just a Touch) (Count of Monte Cristal and Sinden Remix)

They usually do top notch remixes. Only annoyance is the It Takes Two sample they use in so many fucking remixes - "woo! yeah! woo! yeah!" Is that It Takes Two or did they sample someone for that?

Anyhow, its not stellar, but still dancefloor bangin.

indie?!?

Pre my electro explosion/implosion, I was really into indie pop. I still am, just, not as often. I still have my love for Of Montreal, despite their winning "Gayest Album of the Year:" Skeletal Lamping. I am not even kidding, that album is gay in many senses. Just not the happy one. Any album that has a song that starts out with "I'm so siiiick of suckin a diiiick" wins Gayest Album in my book.

Back before Kevin Barnes got all wannabe gay (or Fauxmosexual per Boys and Girls Guide to Getting Down), he was only slightly ambiguously gay. Maybe in the cutely bi-curious way. And he wrote albums as good as Coquelicot, Aldhils, or The Bedside Drama.

I am in an older OM mood today, so here is the first track off of Aldhils Aboretum.
Of Montreal - Doing Nothing

Bonus, their cover of Jimmy
Of Montreal - Jimmy

twelves

As everyone always is pointing it out to me, and I have been saying it all along, if you have not checked out the Twelves yet please do so. Every remix is fucking SPOT ON.

I am going to kick off posting MP3s with a Twelves remix:
Asobi Seksu - Thursday (Twelves Remix)

more anonymous

In regards to your query:

a) I don't think I am special because I think about 99% of the electro community knows it is pronounced Masterkraft. b)I thought it was something humorous to share on my blog. If you don't like it don't read it. If I was holding it over someone's head I would have corrected them when they said it. c)What the fuck does Alternative Press know? They know shit about electro. Seriously, AP?

Anyhow, I like that I am at least getting some traffic, even if it is just a troll. Maybe this means I'll actually start posting MP3s? Maybe. I just didn't see the point before, because that alone won't get me onto hypem. What's the point of getting on hypem anyhow? It's fucking saturated with bloghouse. I am nothing special, what I am writing about is nothing new. But I think I have a few friends who trust my taste in music and whenever I get a song worthy enough to post they'd probably want to dl it as well. There's my initiative.

FUCKING

PART OF THE WEEKEND NEVER DIES

Finally saw it. I want to fuck the brains out of that fucking lifestyle. I need it.

I asked Ian to DJ with me, as real DJs. Soulwax (well, 2ManyDJs) are brothers, so brother and sister would be cool, right?
